A Truck Driver’s Journey to Financial Freedom
Truck drivers are in demand across North America, with solid job prospects in both the USA and Canada. Learning to drive a 53-foot trailer semi-truck requires patience and dedication, but it’s truly worth it. This profession is like a golden bracelet—it’ll keep you busy and can open up financial opportunities.
There are many paths in trucking, from long-haul jobs to local and specialized positions. Some choose long-distance routes, but that’s never appealed to me. Although cross-border trips may sound adventurous, I’ve always believed it’s not the healthiest lifestyle. Instead, I worked for FedEx Express in Edmonton, Alberta, for four years, driving from airport to airport between Edmonton and Calgary. My shifts were less than eight hours daily, and while the job was manageable, I realized it made me complacent and lazy over time. It no longer challenged me or served my growth.
So, I decided to leave my comfort zone and take on an oilfield trucking role. Breaking into the oilfield was challenging, but I pushed through and achieved significant growth. My income surged, increasing by over 70% from my previous role. This experience showed me the potential of trucking as a tool for financial growth.
Now, I’m working toward complete financial freedom, and this is my message to all aspiring truckers: see trucking as a stepping stone, not a lifelong trap. I’ve made my share of financial mistakes, which, in hindsight, have been valuable lessons. Had I avoided them, I might already be financially free, but setbacks are part of the journey.
Today, I’m back on the right path, using this profession to secure my financial future and striving to gain independence from needing to work for anyone. Trucking can be tough, but with the right mindset, it can be a powerful tool for achieving financial freedom. So, leverage it to your advantage!
